LUDHIANA: Jatinder Marwaha, joint secretary of Satluj Club, has been suspended for three months by club president - deputy commissioner Rajat Aggarwal. The decision was taken on account of Marwaha withdrawing his stand from duties on the New Year's eve, which had caused inconvenience to club members. The president said: "Since the general secretary was on an approved leave, responsibility fell on the joint secretary.
He was authorized to give out 65 invites but instead, he sent out 400 invites on record. This led to problems in managing the crowd and such dereliction of duty will not be tolerated."
He said: "There is no decision to remove him from the position. But a strict action was required so that nobody takes responsibility in light vein." Club general secretary Rohit Dutta said: "I have been with the club for three years but I haven't come across such a scenario. I was away on the New Year's eve and I watched video clippings of the event that day and clearly, there was acute mismanagement of the crowd. Around 100-150 members had sent complaint letters to the president. Our executive team will now send apology letters to the club members.
